Prep School – Introduction
The Primary School offers high-quality education for children aged 4–11, with a strong emphasis on English and Mathematics within a broad and creative curriculum. Pupils benefit from dedicated classrooms, access to Senior School facilities, and close integration with the Senior School environment.
The curriculum provides children with opportunities to develop problem-solving skills and express themselves creatively whilst maintaining a focus on health and wellbeing, with every child receiving weekly PE and Swimming lessons delivered by specialist teachers. Across the different year groups, our pupils also benefit from specialist teaching in subjects such as Music, Science and French.
The school prioritises a nurturing, safe environment that supports individual growth and confidence. Small class sizes allow for strong pastoral care, helping pupils build positive relationships and contribute to school life. The school’s house system encourages teamwork and healthy competition and there is a strong focus on praise and reward.
Wrap-around is situated within the Prep School in a space that is familiar and comfortable to pupils. Pre-school care is provided from 7.45am, and after-school care is available until 5.30pm.
Curriculum
At HTS we want our pupils to be inspired, creative life-long learners. Prep School offers a broad and balanced curriculum designed to stretch and challenge pupils and give them the skills and awareness to recognise the impact they can have on the environment and those around them. The curriculum endeavours to give children the ability to achieve National Curriculum age-related expectations in Reading, Writing, and Maths by the end of Key Stage 2 whilst also encouraging children to experience and explore within the wider curriculum.
The curriculum in each subject reflects our School’s curriculum aims which are based on extensive research into our local area and aspires to prepare children to succeed once they leave School.
In addition to academic success, the school emphasises the importance of health and well-being, both physically within the PE and swimming curriculums and emotionally within our PSHE and RSE lessons and our pastoral offer. We strive to create confident learners who are proud of their achievements and of who they are.
The curriculum allows for children to work both independently and collaboratively, preparing them to work with others in an ever-changing society.

Phonics
We have high expectations of all our pupils and we aim to ensure all make expected or above progress in reading through consistent, systematic phonics teaching and high quality reading materials. We want all our pupils to have the phonics knowledge to allow them to read fluently and enjoy what they read. By the time a child leaves Key Stage 1, we aim for them to be secure in the skills of decoding and word recognition; a fluent reader ripe for the development of higher order reading skills.
At Holy Trinity, we follow Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised.
