Small Shield OUR HISTORY
HTS Banner

In September 2014, Holy Trinity became a Free School. A Free School in England is an independent, state-funded school which is free to attend but not controlled by the Local Authority. The school is governed by the Holy Trinity Academy Trust, a non-profit charitable trust that signed a funding agreement with the Secretary of State.

The school owes its origins to the Trinitarian order of nuns, which dates from the 12th century and was founded by two French priests, John de Matha and Felix de Valois. Established in 1903, Holy Trinity is a school that has evolved with the times without compromising its core values and ethos, which remain strong today.

The school has a wide range of facilities to support a broad and balanced curriculum for both primary and secondary pupils. These include a concert hall, swimming pool, fitness suite, and Sixth Form Centre, as well as outdoor sports courts.

Being an all-through school supports continuity of education and eases transition from primary to secondary, and through to Sixth Form. Our curriculum helps create independent, lifelong learners. While we acknowledge the importance of examinations, we place equal value on a holistic approach to education — helping young people become the best versions of themselves and preparing them to contribute meaningfully to society.

Holy Trinity is unique because it has the following features:

  • An all-age, co-educational school.
  • Separate but cohesive primary, secondary and Sixth Form facilities.
  • A small school with a supportive atmosphere.
  • Strong academic expectations and performance in national tests and public examinations.
  • Cross-phase teaching to aid effective transition between Years 6 and 7.
  • A strong emphasis on pastoral care, with every pupil known and supported as an individual.
  • Longer school days: EYFS and Years 1 and 2: 8.30am–3.30pm; Years 3 to 13: 8.30am–3.40pm, with an additional holiday week at Christmas and summer.
  • Personal development supported by a robust House system that fosters team spirit and accountability.
