In the science department, we strive to create enjoyable and interesting lessons that feel different from other subjects because we incorporate practical or other kinaesthetic activities whenever we can. Our objective is to connect learning to real-life contexts so that our young people are able to make links between their school learning and experiences outside of school throughout their lifetimes. The senior school science teachers and primary school staff work and plan learning together to deliver lessons of the highest quality.
In our primary school at Holy Trinity, we deliver lessons through topic-based learning and link our science objectives to each topic. The children complete investigations, experiments and research with a supportive link between school and home learning. We build on the children’s science knowledge and understanding each year as they progress through the school, referring to their previous knowledge from the years before. Where possible, we make use of our outside space to gather information and complete investigations into the world around us.
